18th July 2010... Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship 2010
Brisbane songwriter team Danny Widdicombe and Andrew Morris, of The Wilson Pickers, have been announced as the winners of the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship for 2010. They have selected Berlin as their destination where they would like to establish a European base to further their performing and recording career.

15th May 2010... Special edition of The 10 Rules of Rock And Roll
A limited edition hardback edition of Robert Forster's book The 10 Rules of Rock And Roll will be published by Foruli Publications in June 2010. This special edition of the book will be a box set limited to 500 copies and will be signed by Robert. It will include a 10" vinyl EP. More information at robertforster.net.
4th March 2010... Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship 2010
Applications are now open for the 2010 Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship. The Fellowship was established in 2007 by the former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie in honour of Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens. The Fellowship consists of an award of $20,000 to a Queensland-based songwriter to allow them to undertake a two month trip to New York, Berlin or London. The Go-Betweens feature in a major new exhibition opening at the Ian Potter Museum of Art at the University of Melbourne in February 2010.
Melbourne><Brisbane: punk, art and after will trace the extraordinary interaction of the alternative music and art scenes between Melbourne and Brisbane during the punk and post-punk years, 1975–85. The exhibition reveals the entwined artistic and musical histories of the two cities through music, film, ephemeral publications, photographs and paintings by artists including Howard Arkley, Tony Clark, Brett Colquhoun, Peter Cripps, John Nixon, Peter Tyndall and Jenny Watson, and bands such as Anti-music, the Saints, the Go-Betweens, Nick Cave, the Birthday Party, Ed Kuepper, and the Laughing Clowns.
The exhibition includes concert videos of Robert Forster performances in Brisbane in 1993, 1994 and 1995 and a Warm Nights performance from 1995.

The soundtrack CD to the film Son of A Lion, featuring music composed and performed by Amanda Brown, has been nominated for 'Best Original Soundtrack' at the 2009 ARIA Awards. The awards will be announced on 26th November 2009.

2nd September 2009... Go-Betweens shortlisted for bridge name
'The Go-Between Bridge' is among the names shortlisted for the new Hale Street Link bridge in Brisbane. Brisbane City Council have invited people to vote on their preferred name from the shortlist of 11.

Lindy Morrison has a cameo role in new film Home of Strangers, which has its premiere on 1st August 2009 at the Schonell Cinema, University of Queensland, Brisbane. The film was written and directed by Dr Doan Nguyen of the University of Queensland. More information on the film is on the Home of Strangers website. Music by The Rainy Season, featuring Lindy Morrison and Amanda Brown, is featured in the film.
23rd July 2009... The Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship 2009
The winner of the 2009 Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship has been announced. The winner, chosen by a selection panel comprising Robert Forster, Adele Pickvance, Glenn Thompson and Sally McLennan, is Brisbane songwriter Helen Franzmann, who will travel to Berlin as part of the award. 20th February 2009... Robert Forster to play Brisbane's 'Fire and Flood' benefit show
Powderfinger, The Grates, Robert Forster, The John Steel Singers, The Boat People and Dan Parsons play the 'Fire and Flood' benefit show at The Tivoli, Brisbane, on 6th March 2009.
Fire and Flood is set to show support, build morale and raise funds for the communities affected by the Victorian fires and the Queensland floods.
Profits from the show will be donated evenly across The Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and The Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. Tickets for the show are available from Ticketek.com.au.

Robert Vickers will be joining DJ Daniel Blumin for a special post-Valentine's Day guest DJ set on New York radio station WFMU, on Sunday 15th February, midnight to 3am. The soundtrack CD to the film Son of A Lion, featuring music composed and performed by Amanda Brown, has won the 'best music' award at this year's Inside Film awards, the Australian film awards chosen by film-goers. The film was also awarded the 'Independent Spirit' prize and was nominated for 'Best Film'.

Following the broadcast of Great Australian Albums: 16 Lovers Lane on Saturday 6th September, The Go-Betweens album 16 Lovers Lane has entered the iTunes Australia top 10 chart, peaking at number 2. This is believed to be the highest ever chart placing for a Go-Betweens release.

A new CD by Amanda Brown has just been released on Phantom Sound & Vision. Son Of A Lion is the soundtrack to an independent Australian film directed by Benjamin Gilmour and with a score by Amanda Brown, who has a new MySpace page and also appeared on the recent album by Youth Group. 1st September 2008... The Brisbane Sound: fact or fiction? lecture
'The Brisbane Sound: fact or fiction?' will be the final lecture in the spring semester 'Cultures of Popular Music Seminar Series' at Griffith University in Brisbane. The lecture takes place on Monday 27th October 2008 at Griffith Graduate Centre, Queensland College of Art, South Bank, Brisbane and will be given by David Pestorius.
29th August 2008... Great Australian Albums: 16 Lovers Lane
The Go-Betweens' 1988 album 16 Lovers Lane is the subject of the first episode of the new series of Great Australian Albums. It airs on SBS on Saturday 6th September 2008 and features contributions from Amanda Brown, Robert Forster, Ben Lee, Lindy Morrison, David Nichols, Sean Sennett, Mark Wallis and John Willsteed. A preview of the show can be seen on the SBS website. Other episodes in the series will feature albums by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Powderfinger and Hunters & Collectors.
A DVD of the programme will be released on 17th September.

The Australian Independent Records Labels Association have announced the results of the voting on the 'greatest Australian independent albums of all time'. The Go-Betweens feature strongly in the final results, with Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express at no. 4, Before Hollywood at no. 12 and Send Me A Lullaby at no. 28. Only one other act had as many albums in the top 30.

The Go-Betweens Songbook is being issued in April, to coincide with the release of The Evangelist. The book comprises music and lyrics for 26 Go-Betweens songs, an extensive essay on the history of the band by Klaus Walter, many previously unpublished photographs and an introduction by Robert Forster. Two previously unreleased Go-Betweens tracks, I Am An Architect from 1979 and I Know Why from 1981, are to be included on a compilation CD included with the catalogue for The Brisbane Sound exhibition.
The CD includes many of the artists featured in the exhibition.
Robert Forster's evening at The Brisbane Sound at Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art will now take place on Saturday 8th March and not as previously advised.

The Brisbane Sound
The Brisbane Sound runs at Brisbane's Institute of Modern Art from 9th February - 8th March 2008. This show, which explores the connections between Brisbane's independent music and arts scenes between 1978 and 1983, includes several events and exhibits likely to be of interest to readers of this site.
On Saturday 16th February8th March, Robert Forster curates an evening of music including performances by The Apartments; Adults Today (featuring Glenn Thompson); Robert Forster and Adele Pickvance; and Trevor Ludlow and the Hellraisers.
Exhibits on show during the month include a 1979 television commercial for the Toowong Music Centre starring Robert Forster and Grant McLennan; the short film Heather's Gloves, scripted by Grant McLennan and starring Robert Vickers; a selection from an October 1980 photo-shoot of The Go-Betweens by Graham Aisthorpe, which marked Lindy Morrison's entry into the group; posters for the Lee Remick and People Say singles; and Jenny Watson's original portraits used on the Send Me A Lullaby cover.

22nd October 2007 ... new Robert Forster album nears completion
Recording is nearing completion for Robert Forster's new album, his first solo recording in 11 years. The album has 10 new songs and features the talents of Adele Pickvance and Glenn Thompson as well as a number of other musicians.
The album is produced by Mark Wallis and Dave Ruffy and is due for release in early 2008.
An archive radio session of The Go-Betweens recorded for the John Peel Show in 1984 is featured on BBC 6music's Gideon Coe show at 10pm BST tonight. The show can be heard on-line.
3rd October 2007 ... Glenn Thompson album released
Beachfield, featuring Glenn Thompson, have their debut album released throughout Europe on Tuition Records. The album will be released in Germany on 5th October and in the UK (with distribution via Shellshock) on 5th November.

16th August 2007 ... The Brisbane Sound exhibition
In February 2008 the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane will be presenting an exhibition entitled The Brisbane Sound. The exhibtion will include graphic work, sound, films and concerts covering the indie music and experimental arts/music scenes in Brisbane in the early 1980s. The work of Ed Kuepper, Robert Forster and Eugene Carchesio will be featured and each will curate a concert during the exhibition. Also showing will be a 1979 television commercial for the Toowong Music Centre by The Go-Betweens.
Work on The Brisbane Sound project has commenced at the Pestorius Sweeney House where more information can be found.

23rd July 2007 ... Go-Betweens honoured by Brisbane Council
The Go-Betweens are the first act chosen to have a plaque in the new Rock 'n' Roll Walk of Fame to be installed in the paving of Brisbane's Brunswick Street Mall. A further nine acts will be chosen to have commemorative plaques - these acts will be chosen by public vote from a short-list of thirty. The Go-Betweens plaque will be installed in September.

6th June 2007 ... new novel references The Go-Betweens
A new novel, 'Iraqi Icicle', written by Bernie Dowling, has been published. A modern detective thriller, it uses the history of the Go-Betweens as a metaphor for Australia's geo-political place in the world and quotes liberally from The Go-Betweens' lyrics. The novel is available as a print edition or as a download from Lulu or Lulu UK.
Write Your Adventures Down will be launched at the Pauhaus Festival at the Powerhouse in Brisbane on Saturday 9th June. Performers at the festival include Ed Kuepper, The Grates, The Panics and David McCormack.

Robert Forster performs four nights at the Queensland Music Festival at the end of July. The shows, entitled The Four Ages of Robert Forster, will be different each night and take place from 25th-28th July 2007 at the Brisbane Powerhouse. The Go-Betweens tribute concert, recorded at the Tivoli Theatre in Brisbane on 30th November 2006, will be broadcast on Saturday 5th May at 11pm by ABC TV on JTV Live. Performers in the concert include Sarah Blasko, Glenn Richards (Augie March), Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans), Darren Hanlon, Dan Kelly, Ian Haug (Powderfinger), Cameron Emerson and Toby Martin (Youth Group), and a house band of David McCormack, Adele Pickvance and Glenn Thompson.

Intermission - the best of the solo recordings 1990-1997, a compilation of Robert Forster and Grant McLennan's solo recordings, will be released in June 2007 by Beggars Banquet in Europe and the USA and by EMI in Australia. Intermission is a 2 CD package with lyric book, with one CD comprising the best of the Robert Forster recordings and one CD the best of the Grant McLennan recordings. The recordings on each disc were chosen by Robert Forster and Grant McLennan respectively.

The album includes the track The City of Lights, which features Robert Forster and Grant McLennan on vocals. Other guests on the album include Damo Suzuki, Alasdair Gray, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Davy Henderson and Mike Watt.
